I Can Help You Unpack Safely and Work Through Your Pain

When something bad happens to us, it can shift the way we think about and see ourselves and the world around us. Whether this is just one event or a series of events that are life-threatening or disturbing, it can cause long-lasting hurt and pain in so many ways. Often, we don’t stop to figure out what’s going on because it can be so hard to press pause so we try and get used to this pain.

Examples of adverse experiences may be childhood abuse or neglect, sexual assault, being betrayed, chronic or debilitating health condition, relationship violence, a sudden loss or separation from a loved one, discrimination, or multiple transitions.

EMDR is the acronym for Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing, a holistic 8-phase model that draws upon multiple therapeutic approaches such as cognitive-behavioral therapy, humanistic therapy, and somatic therapy. Apart from the well-known eye movements component of the therapy process, EMDR helps you to manage distress through developing a toolbox of resources, reduces distress of past events that bother you, and allows you to create healthier beliefs about yourself and the world around you. EMDR helps parts of your brain interact better, which helps to convert distressing memories into neutral memories.

Instead of showing up for weekly sessions over the course of a few months or years, an EMDR intensive allows you to complete the treatment course over a focused duration. People typically complete treatment in about a week, and depending on the complexity of the issues, others may take a few weeks. Completing treatment over a shorter duration saves you time and money and allows you to experience the positive effects of EMDR after each day of treatment.

An EMDR Intensive comprises of a comprehensive intake, and the completion of pre- and post-assessment forms. You will be developing coping strategies before working through selected past, present and even future events that cause distress. In between treatment days, Isabelle will conduct free 20-minute check-in sessions with clients.

EMDR is traditionally recommended for people with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). However, EMDR is effective for people with one-time traumas such as an accident or a difficult break-up. EMDR is also appropriate for people with repeated interpersonal trauma that they experience over time. Additionally, EMDR can benefit individuals with anxiety, panic and depression stemming from attachment wounding, abuse and violence, body image issues, grief and loss, nightmares, phobias, and trauma, just to name a few.

EMDR therapy is appropriate for children, teens, and adults. Isabelle adapts EMDR therapy with play-based interventions for use with children and teens so that the full benefits of EMDR can be extended to them.

EMDR is a treatment of choice for trauma and stress conditions. Various organizations such as the World Health Organization (WHO) and the American Psychological Association (APA) have recognized the effectiveness of EMDR therapy.
